WELCOME KARLA ESHELMAN
We would like to welcome Karla Eshelman to the FERKO Board of Directors. She is currently employed with FCPS as an Administrative Secretary at the Career and Technology Center. Ms. Eshelman is scheduled to retire on August 1, 2026, with 45 years of service to FCPS and all 45 years at the CTC. She enjoys helping and working with others and hopes to continue fulfilling that mission at FERKO. Her experience and expertise will make her a valuable asset to the FERKO Board of Directors.
SUMMER SPENDING TIPS
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a great summer.
- Visit your local parks or try camping. Gambrill State Park offers hiking, biking and a breathtaking scenic overlook. Cunningham Falls State Park offers a lake beach for swimming, canoeing, fishing and hiking.
- Host a backyard barbeque for family or friends and make it a potluck. Most people love to pitch in on a party and even non-cooks can help by bringing things like soft drinks and ice.
- Take the family to see an outdoor music concert. The Village at Worman’s Mill hosts free live music concerts every Friday night from 5-8pm.
- Watch a horse show. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket to watch the horses compete in dressage, show jumping or cross-country. Most shows are free for spectators, and the kids may even get the opportunity to pet a horse or feed them treats. Loch Moy Farm has regular shows and is in Adamstown only 20 minutes from Frederick. Show schedules are posted online.
FUN FACT:
Canada created the first glow-in-the-dark coin in 2012, featuring a glowing skeleton of a dinosaur. In 2017 they released the first glow-in-the-dark coin into general circulation, featuring the northern lights. Canada leads the way for this technology and regularly releases glow-in-the-dark coins.
